“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” ~ Isaiah 43:2
There is a reason we use the phrase “our path in life” more frequently than “our road in life”. Paths are personal. Paths are winding. Paths are far less smooth than roads and definitely less structured. There are no speed limits, very few accurate maps, and more opportunities to run into the unexpected. In many ways, this is a pretty perfect analogy for how we travel through our time on earth. At the start of every life, we begin a journey that is largely out of our control. The direction we go and the events that follow, both joys and hardships, are unique to every person. Your path is different than anyone else’s.
In your travels, there will be times when the company is pleasant, the ground is soft, the load you carry is light, the scenery is beautiful, and the weather is fair. During those times, He walks with you.
As the years pass, you will find yourself walking when companions are few, the ground is rocky and uneven, your load is heavy with responsibilities and broken hearts, there is no beauty to be found in the landscape, and it is driving rain. During those times, He walks with you.
Whatever may befall you, He walks with you. When you celebrate, He walks with you. When you weep, He walks with you. When you feel so alone and cannot see Him there, He walks with you. Every step you take, every direction you go, every time you fall down, and every time you dance, He walks with you.
Jesus, our loving God and perfect Savior, knew what it was like to walk. He walked with people through the desert, up mountains, to the sea, and down the lonely road to Calvary, but the journey of our Lord did not end at the cross. No, Jesus never stopped moving. He continued travelling beyond death, forging a new path for us to heaven. He kept walking to show us the way, then, like every good guide, He came back to help us get there.
How blessed are we to have someone who never gives up on us and never stops journeying with us - not ahead of us, not following us, but with us? We have someone who understands heavy burdens and difficult relationships, rocky and unlevel terrain, high mountain tops and low valleys, someone who knows the way, and will never leave our side.
He walks with us… every step of the way.
Peace to you,
~ Hallie
