Requiem Mass for Pope Francis has been scheduled for Monday, April 28 at 6:30 pm.
____Today we wake up on the Monday of the Octave of Easter. For us Christians, for us Catholics more specifically, the celebration of Easter Sunday is so significant that we celebrate it over the next eight days! The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed!
We also woke up to the news this morning that the Holy Father, Pope Francis, has died. And so, while the Church celebrates the joy of Easter we also mourn the loss of the Holy Father. While we mourn, we remain grateful for Pope Francis' leadership, particularly for his concern and care for those on the margins. Pope Francis advocated for every single person because every person is made in the image and likeness of God.
As we move through the Octave of Easter, I encourage everyone to pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. Pray also for the College of Cardinals who will now be charged to select a new pontiff. And, pray for the Church particularly that the deposit of faith entrusted to her remains safeguarded as handed on to us from the Apostles.
We will schedule a Mass for the intention of repose of the soul of Pope Francis. This news will be shared as soon as the staff is back in the office and we can get this scheduled. In the meantime, you will notice at Mass that the name of the Holy Father will be omitted from the Eucharistic Prayer. You will also notice black bunting at the entrances of the Church as we mourn the death of the pope.
Eternal rest grant unto Pope Francis O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Fr. Ryan
