High School Sacraments Series: Confirmation

We often overlook the significance of the Sacraments and the graces that we receive from them. God desires that we live in peace, grace, and harmony with Him and all of creation. Being imperfect humans, we cannot achieve this without the grace and mercy of God - and the Sacraments he provides us through the Catholic Church!

Confirmation completes baptism through sealing in the Holy Spirit an anointing as priest, prophet, and king. The confirmed individual(s) receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit through the imposition of hand and anointing with oils by the bishop (or priest). This powerful sacrament of initiation deepens our baptismal promises, and calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world. Through Confirmation, our personal relationship with Christ is strengthened. We receive the message of faith in a deeper and more intensive manner with great emphasis given to the person of Jesus Christ, who asked the Father to give the Holy Spirit to the Church for building up the community in loving service.
