As you surely have heard, the United States Supreme Court today issued its Dobbs opinion, in which it upheld a Mississippi statute limiting late-term abortions. In doing so, the Court overruled Roe v Wade and Casey v Planned Parenthood.
As we go forward, this will be a continuing time of prayer and fasting. Please pray for our legislators and other governmental officials in Michigan, that they will exercise their authority to protect young life, and save women and men from having to live with the lifelong consequences of abortion.
The Bishops of Michigan have expressed this well --
Unfortunately, there also is news of pro-abortion groups threatening Catholic churches and other pro-life organizations with vandalism and disruption of church services. As you would expect, we are in communication with the Meridian Township Police Department.
This is a good time to review what we have said before: If a disturbance were to occur during Mass, we would rely on the police to handle it. We must not respond physically or verbally. It is important that we not, through imprudent word or deed, give the enemies of Life anything to later use against the cause of Life.
If you believe that, in the face of great provocation, you would be unable to remain peaceable and prayerful, then please talk to me about a brief dispensation from the Sunday obligation.
Pray for the unborn. Pray for those who, in challenging circumstances, may now be considering abortion. Pray for spiritual and emotional healing for those who, facing such circumstances in the past, made the wrong decision. Pray for those angry and confused persons who imagine that their "rage" serves any beneficial purpose.
